The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has urged the Black Stars players to do their best to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South stated that the financial gains from the World Cup should serve as a motivation for the players.

He also stressed the financial gains the country will make if the team excels in the tournament.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on March 19, 2025, Haruna Iddrisu entreated the Black Stars to beat Chad to facilitate their qualification to the tournament.

"Even just participating in the tournament, you will be amazed at how much money Ghana can make from the World Cup. The players also have personal benefits. In fact, the players who went to Qatar, even those who appeared only once, went home with not less than US$90,000 as their participating reward or benefit.

"Not to mention how much the country would gain if you fared better and reached the semi-finals – the bigger the reward. So, we have no excuse against Chad. Our reputation in football has waned over the years due to indiscipline," he said.

The Black Stars will face Chad on March 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium before facing Madagascar in an away fixture on March 24, 2025.

Ghana are second in Group I with nine points, tied with leaders Comoros, while Madagascar are third with seven points, followed by Mali with five points.
