Ghanaians are in Port Elizabeth in their numbers cheering the Black Stars at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. Sportsinghana.com has been sampling their views on the Black Stars and the fans have been emphatic in reposing a massive dose of confidence in the national team to finally win that elusive 5th Africa Cup.
Interviews were done after the Black Stars Press Conference at the Garden Court Hotel and Formula One in Port Elizabeth.
Joseph Tagoe aka Mensu- I want the Black Stars to win the trophy for Ghana. It’s been 31 years as the people say. I have never set my naked eyes on the African Cup, so I’m here to help them take it home. I will cry and cry and cry for Ghana to win. I will also cry for those we beat. We are one Ghana, we should stop doing politics with the game. We are all here for the game and in the interest of Ghana to take the cup home. Even if you bring Brazil at this time, we shall beat them.
Allan Worry (Leader of Allan Family)- Ghana is going all the way to the finals. We are trying to compose new songs for the team and mother Ghana, It is my prayer that we win and win big, Thanks.
Michael Adjei (Allan Family)- We are cruising to the final. God is on our side. My prayer is that we meet Nigeria or Ivory Coast in the final and show them that we are the best in Africa. If we meet South Africa, it would be a tough game playing against the host nation. We have a great team that is young. I think the future is very bright for Ghana football. We have to thank the local coach Kwesi Appiah for guiding the team to this stage of the competition. We are going to the final and taking the cup hope.
Abdul Mumuni (Kumasi)- With great stars like skipper Asamoah Gyan finding his scoring boots and Emmanuel Clottey having a feel of the game, I think the team is on track. The defenders and midfielders are also doing well. Ghana will win the cup. All Ghanaians should pray for the team.
Guntu ( Millennium Supporters Union)- We have to thank God Almighty and our president, John Mahama for taking so many fans to South Africa to support the Black Stars. Without full support, we cannot go far in this game. Many countries have brought many supporters and Ghana has brought our fans. I must say the NDC government has done very well. This is the first time so many supporters have come along with the Black Stars to the African Cup and it is a big plus to the Mahama administration. The late President J.E.A . Mills did it at the World Cup in 2010 and now President Mahama has done it for the better Ghana agenda. For me I can say we are taking the trophy home.
Jesus ( MISUGHA)- I am very happy to be here in South Africa to cheer the Black Stars to victory. We are going all out to win the Cup by the grace of God, We need the prayers of all Ghanaians and all Africans who love good football. Ghana plays good football and as we are known to be the Brazil of Africa, we need to lift the cup for the fifth time to prove that we are the best. We are winning ...that's all.
George Nyame aka Mr. Ghana- For me, am branding Ghana to the fullest. My dream is to win everything for Ghana. We are the best and we have to prove the the best is from West Africa, a country called Ghana. I believe in the red, yellow and green colours, so I wear them everywhere I go. I believe in Ghana and the Black Stars, we are going to win grand and great.
I want all Ghanaians to pray for the Black Stars. As Asamoah Gyan has found his scoring boots and Christian Atsu has also got his feet o the ground, there is nothing to stop Ghana. We are going to win. In 1996, we could not win here. In 2010, we did not win the World Cup, but this time, we are going to show the world that we have arrived. Bet me I predict total victory for Ghana.
Allow me to use your medium to thank members of the GFA, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and all the fans who have left their families to come here to cheer the Black Stars to victory.
Nurudeen Sumaila- Ghana O seyieeeee se yeeeeee.... we are going all out. Bet me Ghana will win the Cup. I want to thank the government and the person who decided that fans should come along to support the Black Stars. We are leaving no stone unturned in this quest to lift the African Cup for the fifth time. It has been 31 years since Ghana won the Africa Cup and this time we have meant the trophy more than anything.
Ghana is the best here in South Africa. You can see that we have started to display the Agoro game and I must give credit to the Ghanaian coach, Kwesi Appiah for his vision and style. I think he is a listening coach. He listens to the fans and gives us what we want. We asked for Christian Atsu and he brought him on. We asked for Harrison Afful and he fielded him, we wanted Clottey and he paraded him. Now we want the cup and we shall take it home. Thank you.
