Reverend Osei Kofi, a member of the 1965 Black Stars squad, that won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has said, the current members of the team, should emulate the example of 1965 and 1982 squads, by having the zeal to fight for the country in the upcoming 2019 AFCON.
He said, because of the professionalism and the development of football, this generation of Black Stars should play better than the older generation.
In an interview with GNA Sports, Rev Kofi said, the players should have the will power to end the 37 years of trophy drought.
“We used 25 years to win four AFCON trophies for the country, but even today that football has developed we are yet to win a cup in 37 years and it tells you that there is problem, so the players should put everything aside a have the determination to win the 2019 AFCON”, he said.
The former goal poacher said, it was time for the players to reward Ghanaians and the government after providing them with everything they need to excel.
“The government have been doing their best by giving the players everything they need especially in terms of bonuses, so I think it is time for them to reward Ghanaians and the government by winning this AFCON trophy,” he said.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group F with defending champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea Bissau in the AFCON 2019 group stage in Egypt.
