Blackpool close in on Quincy Owusu-Abeyie to bolster squad

English side Blackpool have opened talks with former Arsenal winger Quincy Owusu-Abeyie seeking to sign the Ghana international to a short-term contract.

The former Arsenal winger, who has been a free agent since his release by Greek side Panathinaikos, has held a series of discussions with officials from the Championship club.

Should the talks continue to be positive, the 28-year-old will sign a deal with the Seasiders, potentially until January.

Owusu-Abeyie, who will sign for the club on a free transfer is seeking the short term deal because he is confident he can land a bumper cash deal in January if he impresses in his short spell at Blackpool.

The Championship strugglers are continuing to piece together a squad with former Leeds striker El Hadji Diouf training with them also last week.

The winger is hoping that a good spell at the Championship side could help him to return to play for the Black Stars at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
