Boakye For Spain

After losing the likes of former Chelsea and French national team skipper, Marcel Desailly, Gerald Asamoah and Kelvin Odonkor, both to the German national team, Ghana is again at the verge of losing yet another young and talented playmaker to the Spanish Olympic soccer side.

After performing gallantly in his two year stay with Spanish second side, Deportivo de Choco, Ghanaian born Kingsley Boakye have impressed officials and caught the eyes of the Spanish Football Federation and are deciding to extent an invitation to the Ghanaian in order to join the Spanish Olympic side for the next Olympic Games.

According to one of the Spanish soccer journal, officials have begun talks with Boakye’s agent who also happens to be Spanish in order to help lure the player to wear the Spanish national colours.

Boakye, who appears as a carbon-copy of Black Stars skipper Stephen Appiah when watching him play according to information, featured for lower division sides Newcastle United and Jofia F/C in Ghana, where he was coached by current assistant coach of Ghana’s male Olympic soccer side J.E.A Sarpong, and it is believed that the assistant Meteors coach may know more about the youngster. A visit to Boakye’s Spanish club, which placed seventh and fourth in the last two seasons of the Spanish Second Division league’s website reveals that Boakye as so far scored eighteen times since joining the club.

However, reaching Boakye on phone from his Spanish base for an interview revealed that the player has not committed himself so far as the changing nationality is concerned.

“My agent informed me about the decision of Spanish officials to hand me a Spanish nationality in order to feature for them, but I’m yet to consider that move since presently we are holding talks with a La Liga side that wants me next season” he said.

Asked whether he is ready to don the Ghanaian colours should he be granted an invitation, he answered in the affirmative. He claimed the senior national team; Black Stars wonderful outing at the Germany World Cup last year has made every gained special attention at his club so far as football is concerned. For now, Boakye who claims he hardly visits the country can only feature for the two senior sides, thus the Black Meteors and Black Stars considering his age.
