Sunyani (B/A), July 10, GNA - Tano Bofoakwa beat visiting Real Sportive 2-0 in their GT-sponsored Premier League match before their pet crowd at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Sunday.
Both goals of the match were scored in each half with Bofo's 'strong-man', Senyo Reubin netting the first goal in the 24th minute whilst Yaw Antwi fetched the second goal in the 54th minute to seal th doom of the visitors.
The victory was indeed a sweet one for the home team who are currently lowly placed on the league table.
Bofoakwa by the early indications showed that they were ready to carry the day as from the first 20 minutes of the game they mounted sustained pressure Sportive but squandered most of the goal chances that came their way until in the 24th minute when Senyo opened the score for his side.
In the 30th minute, Opoku Adusei found the net with a good shot but referee Stephen Oduro of Kumasi ruled the out the goal, explaining that the ball entered the net through the side netting.
Bofoakwa protested against the decision but that did not to deter the referee and when sanity prevailed, it was still Bofoakwa who kept on probing for more goals but the defence of Sportive, with Captain Charles Vardis playing a good game, ably supported by goalkeeper Stephen Adams managed to prevent any disaster till the end of the first half. Bofoakwa's Antwi scored his side's second goal in the 54th minute with a trickish header, which beautifully beat on onrushing keeper Adams into the net.
Both sides exhausted their substitutions and as the game was coasting to an end, Sportive came to the limelight but the defence of Bofoakwa with keeper Ransford Cudjoe at his best, ensured that they dealt with all the efforts made in search of at least a consolation goal.
