The National Sports Authority (NSA) has denied renting out Borteyman Sports Complex for church activity.

The NSA clarified in a statement released on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, that the program held at the venue was a student tour.

The NSA stated that some students from the University of Ghana, the University of Professional Studies and Valley View University through their SRC scheduled a tour of the facility.

The statement also clarified that the tour involved a speech from an unnamed Deputy Minister.

"A letter sent to us stated that "the SRC of the University of Ghana, University of Professional Studies, Valley View University, and other institutions requested a special visitation to the Borteyman Sports Complex as part of a tour of the newest attraction in Accra". They intended to tour the facilities at the venue," the statement read.

"A church was supposed to provide transportation for the students, and subsequently, a Deputy Minister was scheduled to give them a lecture on leadership. Therefore, they were granted access to the hall for this purpose."

The NSA's statement comes in reaction to a supposed church service video shared by Sports Journalist Fentuo Tahiro with the caption: "Borteyman Sports Complex is now a church. That didn’t take long."

The Borteyman Sports Complex facility includes a 1,000-seater capacity swimming pool, comprising a 10-lane competition swimming pool and an eight-lane warm-up swimming pool.

It also boasts a multipurpose sports hall capable of seating 1,000 spectators for various events, such as basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, and weightlifting.

Additionally, there is a 500-seater temporary dome for handball, volleyball, judo, karate, taekwondo, fencing, arm-wrestling, and a five-court tennis complex, including a 1,000-seater centre court.
