Boxing bonanza to celebrate 48th Independence celebration

Obric Sala Promotion and Management Limited, in conjunction with Ambition Promotions will on Friday, March 4, organise a seven-bout event dubbed "The Independence Rumble" at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, Kaneshie in Accra.

The event, which will form part of the 48th Independence Day anniversary celebrations, will have the main bout between Ghana's Joshua "Bukom Tsatsu" Okine, the ex-World Boxing Federation (WBF) champion challenging Fatal Onikeke, a London-based Nigerian for his ABU and Commonwealth Welterweight crown.

The 12 rounds fight is said to be crucial to the future ambitions of the Ghanaian and he expects to use it to rekindle his world title ambitions.

The other supporting bouts include a 12 round National and West Africa Lightweight Championship fight between Ben "Congo Soldier" Ankrah and Bilal "Take Punch" Mohammed challenging for the title. Herbert "Sensational" Quartey from the Akotoku Academy will sort issues out with Galley "Tico Tico" Cudjoe from the Black Panthers gym in a 12 round championship for the vacant National and West African Bantamweight title.

Also on the bill is a 10 round ABU Light Heavyweight eliminator between Braimah Komoko alias "Bukom Banku" and Sugar Ray Akwei Junior. In an eight round Welterweight contest, Joseph "Opanka" Kwadjo from the Believers gym will take on Ishmael Tetteh of the Panix gym.

Thomas Awinbono from the Attoh Quarshie gym will engage Gabriel Adoku from the Sagacious Gym in an eight round Welterweight contest whilst Lartei Lartey takes on Ezekiel Alamu 'the Dynamite" in a six round Super Lightweight contest.
