Ghana striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has joined Coventry City from Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The 25-year-old striker, formerly of Salford City, has signed a four-year contract with the Sky Blues, making him the club's fifth summer signing.

The transfer fee remains undisclosed.

This move follows closely on the heels of two other departures from Albion's Championship play-off semi-final squad: Conor Townsend's £750,000 transfer to Ipswich Town and Matt Phillips' switch to Oxford United.

Thomas-Asante initially joined West Brom under manager Steve Bruce from League Two side Salford City on the August 2022 deadline day for an undisclosed fee.

He went on to score nine goals in league and cup competitions that season and netted another 11 goals in the Championship during the 2023-24 campaign, including one against his new team, Coventry City.

Manager Mark Robins expressed his enthusiasm about the signing, saying, “We’re excited to welcome Brandon to Coventry City. He is a powerful and pacy striker who has goalscoring pedigree at this level plus a great attitude and work-rate. Brandon can play across the front line and will further strengthen our attacking options. We look forward to working with him at Coventry City.”

Hull City were also reportedly interested in Thomas-Asante, with former Ghana assistant coach George Boateng playing a significant role in the pursuit.

Thomas-Asante earned his first cap for Ghana in a World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in June.
