Ashgold’s experienced center forward, Yakubu Mohammed, has promised supporters of the club the imminent break in the ongoing Ghana Premier League will not derail their focus and ambitions of winning a first league crown in two decades.
Ashgold leads the 2015 FCPPL with 3 matches left to the end of the season with many experts predicting only a miracle will stop the Miners from winning the title.
According to Yakubu Mohammed, “The break in the league will not take our momentum away at all. It is a target we have set for ourselves and we are focused on achieving that at the end of the season. We are motivated by the fact that leading the table for almost the entire season and losing it at the last few matches will be too harsh for us to contain.
“Personally I don’t really like the break but it won’t in any way take our attention from our set target. As a player, my work is to work hard and leave the big men do the rest. The 2009 painful experience where we lost the league at the final game motivates me going forward. The entire team is focused and I believe the break in the league wouldn’t take the momentum away.”
Ashgold will head to Berekum for the clash with Ashgold before welcoming WAFA in what could potentially be a league crowning match at home.
The FCPPL will take a three week break after match day 28 and return on 6th September, 2015.
