Ghana turns 60 this year hence the Black Stars of Ghana should endeavour to bring the trophy to Ghana to make celebration of the anniversary a memorable one, Moses Foh-Amoaning, a sports enthusiast and former president of the Ghana Boxing Association, has said.
The Black Stars play the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun on Thursday February 2. A win for either side will usher the victor into the finals against the Pharaohs of Egypt, who triumphed over Burkina Faso after a penalty shootout on Wednesday February 1.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Thursday February 2, Mr Foh-Amoaning said: “The players should keep in mind that we want the cup, whatever it takes to bring the cup home, they should do it.
“Ghana turns 60 this year and the Cup of Nations is also 60 and so they should do their best to bring the cup to Ghana for us to celebrate the anniversary with it. 35 years without a trophy is something else and so they should make history for us by bringing the cup home. This cup belongs to Ghana but we will need to do one or two things to ensure that it actually comes to Ghana.
“And so they should be focused and more purposeful in today’s game. They should follow the coach’s instruction and if they do that, victory will surely be ours.”
