Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Burkard Ziese as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars. The decision was taken at a marathon emergency meeting of the FA late last night.
The GFA Executive Board had earlier disqualifed all three interviewees, although the interview panel recommended Burkard Ziese for the job.
The German came out tops scaling the 60 percentage mark, set by a 11-member interview panel, ahead of caretaker-boss Emmanuel Afranie and the sponsors-favourite Portuguese Manuel Goncalves Gomes. According to the panel, although Ziese made the mark, he could not be offered the job because of his past conduct with the FA a decade ago.
After a long meeting of the management board of the FA, it was agreed that the recommendation of the interview panel be allowed to stay. The FA?s decision will be communicated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Public outcry on the wastage of tax payers money to conduct the interviews may have forced the management board of the GFA to give the German the job.
After the interviews, everyone was expecting at least one of the three candidates to be named. While some were critical, accusing the GFA of wasting time and money, others endorsed them, saying that the Black Stars deserve nothing less than the best coach available.
Ziese came out tops scaling the 60 percentage mark set by a 11-member interview panel, ahead of Ghana?s Emmanuel Kwasi Afranie and the highly tipped Portuguese Manuel Goncalves Gomes. Ziese was passed on a 61 percentage mark.
