Samartex’s bid to reach the CAF Champions League group stage will require an extraordinary performance in Morocco next week after a 2-2 draw against Raja Casablanca in Accra.

The Ghanaian champions failed to capitalise on home advantage, leaving them with a monumental task in Casablanca.

Francis Gyetuah and Michael Ephson scored to initially put Samartex in a strong position, erasing an early opener from Mohamed Zrida.

However, Raja clawed back in the second half to secure a vital draw, giving them the advantage due to the away goals rule.

Raja goalkeeper Anass Zniti struggled throughout the match, allowing Ephson’s first goal—a bicycle kick despite lacking power—and later fumbling a long-range shot into the striker's path for his second. However, Samartex couldn't capitalise further.

The challenge now shifts to Morocco, where Samartex must secure a win or a high-scoring draw (3-3 or above) to advance. A scoreless or 1-1 draw will see Raja progress, leaving the Ghanaian side to rue missed opportunities at home.
