Accra, Jan 29 GNA - A high powered delegation from the Confederation of African football (CAF) to be led by the President, Issah Hayatou, will visit the country to discuss further Ghana's bid for the right to host the 2008 African Cup of Nations.
The was made known by Dr Kofi Amoah, chairman of the CAN 2008 bid committee on his arrival back in the country after leading a three-man delegation to the CAF congress in Tunisia.
A statement issued by Mr Rex Danquah, Coordinating Director of the committee copied to the GNA Sports said the delegation, which included Dr N. Nyaho-Tamakloe and Alhaji Nurudeen Jawula conveyed a message of support and solidarity of the President, John Agykum Kufuor and the people of Ghana to Alhaji Issah Hayatou who was then seeking re-election.
Alhaji Hayatou won his re-election bid on a landslide, polling 46 votes to six to beat his rival Ishmael Bhamjee from Botswana. The statement said Alhaji Hayatou was very pleased with the support shown by Ghana with the personal letter from the president. The statement said whilst in Tunis, the delegation held fruitful discussion with the Mr Sepp Blatter, President of FIFA and the CAF President.
It said Dr Amoah assured all that the committee is working very hard in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports in pushing the agenda for the provision of the requisite infrastructure in the country.
The statement further said the chairman of the committee was very pleased with the turn of events adding that he was highly confident of Ghana's chances of winning the bid.
