CAF to confer award on Ghanaian referee

Accra, Jan 12, GNA - The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) will confer an award on Ghanaian veteran referee, Major George Lamptey for the unalloyed services he has rendered to the soccer controlling body for the past years.

The decision was arrived at after an Executive Meeting of CAF held in October 19, last year.

The award dubbed "CAF Order of Merit Award" is in recognition of the referee's achievement as an international referee, a CAF instructor, as well as a member of the CAF Referees Committee. Major Lamptey was one of Ghana's finest referees having officiated on the international scene for many years.

The award will be conferred on the Ghanaian at the XXVIIIth CAF Ordinary General Assembly to be held in Cairo, Egypt between January 17 and 18, two days ahead of the start of the 2006 Nations Cup. Referee Lamptey would also attend the opening ceremony of the 25th MTN Africa Cup of Nations and the opening match between Egypt and Libya.
