CANA President lauds Ghana Netball

*Madam Carol Garoes, President of the Confederation of African Netball Associations (CANA) has commended the Ghana Netball Association for developing and promoting the sport in Ghana.*

The Namibian whose country are champions of the continent said Ghana, the runners up have really developed and the players are well motivated to play.

She was in Ghana to open the African Cup of Nations tournament but unfortunately most of the teams did not turn up so Ghana had to feature four teams comprising two male and two female teams who played on non scoring basis.

Madam Garoes attributed the low turn out to nations preparations towards the All African Games in Maputo.

She said the CANA is going through a storm due to political instability and appealed to the people who love netball to grow in Africa to unite and support the game.

“African unity is important and we know Ghana has always led the fight for peace and unity in Africa,” she said.

She commended the Netball Association of Ghana for forming a men’s team within a short period.

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Worlanyo Agra, said netball was crawling when he became head of Ghana Sports, but now they are walking and praised the Netball Association led by Rev. E.D Nikoi who noted that politics should not have an effect on sports to the extent that players and official as well as fans will suffer.

The championship at the University of Ghana, Legon sports center attracted a sizeable crowd including representatives from Agya Appiah Bitters Company, the sponsors of Ghana Netball who presented kits and a trophy to the Association.

Madam Agnes Abefe, the Secretary General of the Netball Association of Ghana thanked the media for supporting netball to attract sponsorship and attention of the NSA.

The Medeama Sports Supporters club provided entertainment for the players.
