‘Cameroon brought out the best in my team’

Head coach of the Ghana under-17 men’s team, Paa Kwesi Fabin has given credit to his opponents for bringing out the best in his team.

The Black Starlets secured qualification to the 2015 African Under-17 Championship by beating their Cameroonian counterparts on a 6-4 aggregate after the two legged match in which the Ghanaians won both.

Despite grabbing two early goals in the first half, the Black Starlets were given a good run for their money as they conceded one goal before half time, then two more upon resumption of the second half. But Ghana eventually found two more goals to win the game 4-3 at the Accra sports stadium.

And this according to Coach Paa Kwesi was a perfect lesson for his players as they prepare for the tournament which will be hosted in Niger next year.

“For me, everything about the match is positive because it brought out the best in my team. The first leg was played far away from the fans yet the players showed character and win, so I wasn’t surprised how they managed to win this one too”, Paa Kwesi Fabin mentioned in an interview with sportscrusader.com.

According to him, the Cameroonians were slow starters and they noticed that in the first leg an action they again capitalized on to win on Sunday.

“In football you need to study the strength and weaknesses of your opponents and that is what we did. We saw that they were a very good side, but it takes them a while to warm up into a game and we had to capitalize on that to seek qualification.”

For Paa Kwesi, there will be nothing like rest as he will assemble the team from time to time in preparation for the tournament next year.
