Cape Verde rise in Group Two

Cape Verde beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in Praia on Saturday to rise up Group Two of 2006 World Cup qualifying.

An early goal by Cafu lifted the Cape Verdians two places up to third spot, and level on seven points with group leaders Ghana and DR Congo.

The Black Stars face the Simbas in a decisive clash in Kumasi on Sunday.

Cafu scored in the third minute and the home side had plenty more chances to increase their lead, with the menacing Cafu, Nene and Calo all going close.

Burkina Faso's Stallions put in a poor performance and although they came back strongly in the match, they created very few anxious moments for Cape Verde stopper Jose Veiga.

Burkina Faso now lie fourth in the keenly-contested Group Two, where just one point separates the top five sides of a six-team group.

In Kampala on Sunday, Uganda host South Africa in the weekend's other Group Two fixture.
