Ghanaian Football pundit, Mr. Kojo Addae Mensah has taken a swipe at erstwhile Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah, claiming that the former Black Stars trainer bowed to pressure to strip Asamoah Gyan off the captaincy prior to the 2019 African Nations Cup in Egypt.

According to the outspoken CEO of Data Bank, Kwesi Appiah could have handled the captaincy issue in a better manner stating that ‘’it’s quiet unfortunate how he mishandled the situation’’.

“Kwasi Appiah could have managed the issue of captaincy very well but it’s sad he acted under pressure to take such decision, in fact, I least expected him to do that,” Kojo Addae Mensah told Kasapa FM in an interview.

He however, wants CK Akonnor to appoint a substantive captain for the Black Stars rather than making it rotational.

Swansea City forward Andre Ayew, was named as Black Stars new captain ahead of the 2019 Nations Cup, a decision which sparked serious tension in the country before the start of the tournament held in Egypt.

Asamoah Gyan after losing the captaincy shockingly withdrew his services from the team and it required the intervention of His Excellency Nana Addo Dabkwah Akufo-Addo for the former Sunderland striker to rescind his decision and be part of the final squad for the tournament.
