Asante Kotoko have put on hold their move to sign Ghana midfielder Rahim Ayew over lack of funds to meet the player’s high demands.
The 25-year-old took a medical with the Premier League champions last week after agreeing to a reported three-year move.
The player has since returned to his base in Accra awaiting a call from Kotoko officials to resume training with the team upon fulfilling their financial obligations.
It has, however, emerged that the Ghanaian giants are unable to raise the lump sum required to activate the contract of the Ghana international.
The former Lierse player agreed to join Kotoko in principle due to his unique family ties with coach Mas-Ud Dramani.
The club have however been struggling with funds following the sudden resignation of Dr. K.K Sarpong as the club’s executive chairman.
Kotoko’s new board is pleading for more time in order to organize themselves in raising the needed funds to finalize the deal to sign the first son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele.
