Charles Taylor scored his goal for Kumasi Asante Kotoko as the Porcupine Warriors beat Bofoakwa Tano 2-0 in their match at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
Taylor got the leader in the 12th minute with a classic goal and Aziz Ansah sealed the doom of the Sunyani boys with yet another perfect goal during time added on.
The Porcupine Warriors victory however, did not reflect the trend of the game as the homesters put up a very spirited fight, especially in the second half.
Kotoko, tipped to win the match convincingly, disappointed their teeming supporters who totally eclipsed those of the home team as they squandered numerous chances that were easier to score than to miss.
Kotoko took the kick-off and under one minute Charles Taylor whom all eyes were focused on was nearly on target but was ruled off-side before a pass could reach him in the vital area of Bofoakwa. The thunderous applause from the teeming fans that greeted his first effort was better heard than told.
Bofoakwa had their chance in the early exchanges but Halimah Awudu's close-range shot went off target.
In the seventh minute, Taylor nearly scored but he was deprived of the ball before he could cause any havoc.
Undaunted, Taylor combined effectively with Michael Osei, Yusif Chibsah, Nana Arhin Duah, Michael Asante and Dan Yeboah and it was little wonder that he got the goal in the 12th minute.
After receiving an in-swinger, Taylor skillfully sliced his way through Bofoakwa's defense and before goalkeeper Ransford Cudjoe became aware the ball was dangling in the net, as the virtually red-clad Coronation Park erupted with thunderous cheers.
In the 22nd minute Bofoakwa's technical bench replaced Awudu with Issah Abu following an injury but the goal-hungry Porcupine Warriors kept threatening menacingly the vital area of the home team.
Taylor made good inter-positional changes but his perfect passes could not be utilized by Chibsah, Nana Arhin Duah and Michael Osei who woefully finished the splendid combinations in Bofoakwa's "18".
On resumption the tide turned in favour of Bofoakwa but goalkeeper George Owu made mincemeat of all attempts by Alhassan Issah, Adu Kwasi, Awuah Richard, Yeboah Gordon and substitute Tahiru Abdulai who replaced Nuhey Emmanuel.
Just as the match was to end Taylor's free kick from found Aziz Ansah who in a dramatic style hit the back of the net for the second goal.
