Former Asante Kotoko star Charles Taylor has accused German coach Hans Dieter Schmidt for the club's defeat in the Confederation Cup final in 2004.

Taylor, who was substituted in that game after giving his side the lead in the second leg in Kumasi could not comprehend why he had to be taken off despite being the main man for the Porcupine Warriors.

After 16 years, the former national star is still reeling from the defeat and blames the then coach of the side Hans Schmidt for the loss.

“It was his (Hans-Dieter Schmidt) fault that’s why we lost, I don’t know what he saw, and I don’t know why he had to substitute me from the game,” he said on GTV sports+.

Arch-rivals Hearts of Oak triumphed over the Kumasi based outfit at their own backyard after edging them on penalties.

“Perhaps Hearts of Oak did something to him to make him change me because I personally don’t know why he had to change me," Taylor continued.

“I had scored and I was in control, I thought I was going to finish the game. If not for that we would have won the game but the Coach decided to change me.

“He later on came to apologize for making that substitution. But is past and gone, it still in my memory though.”
