Renowned sports journalist Saddick Adams has claimed that Asante Kotoko's 2004 unveiling ceremony for Charles Taylor surpassed Kylian Mbappe's presentation at Real Madrid.
Adams described the ceremony as enchanting, with such a large crowd that the roads were blocked, requiring military assistance to escort Taylor to the venue.
He emphasized that the event generated massive hype, dominating morning shows, afternoon drives, and sports programs across various media outlets.
Adams noted that Mbappe's free transfer pales in comparison to Taylor's, which involved a significant transfer fee.
"I think 2004 is too distant for people to remember. From what I witnessed, it was mesmerizing. It was featured on morning shows, afternoon drives, and various sports programs. Those under 30 might not grasp it. I went to Ridge to watch his first training session, but he wasn't there. When Charles Taylor arrived, the crowd was so large that the roads were blocked, and soldiers at Ridge had to provide him with another vehicle to get through.
"The seats on the Ridge park were all taken. What was done for Mbappe doesn't compare to Taylor's unveiling. What Kotoko did for Charles Taylor in Kumasi, Madrid hasn't even done half of it. He transferred from a rival club with a significant fee, unlike Mbappe's free transfer. He can only be compared to Figo's unveiling, not Mbappe's," he said in Twi during a discussion on Angel FM.
This statement came after Kylian Mbappe was presented at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, with over 80,000 fans attending the event on July 16, 2024.
