As the Premier League season approaches, Chelsea is sweating over their unprecedented squad size.
Chelsea’s squad roster has a total of 47 players who are all qualified to play for them this season. The club has invested a staggering £185.4 million in the summer transfer window and are still bent on bringing in more players.
According to the Sky Sports report, the club has spent a total of 1.016 billion euros since the takeover by Todd Boehly. The Blues have a squad that is arguably one of the largest ever by any club in Premier League history.
Despite the departure of twenty players, Enzo Maresca has a tough job of naming a 25-man squad for the 2024/25 Premier League season.
The Premier League requires each club to submit a 25-man squad list after the summer transfer window closes. This list must include at least eight English players.
The challenge now for coach Enzo Maresca is to make strategic decisions on who will be included in their official squad and how to manage the players left on the bench effectively.
Chelsea's first game of the season is against Manchester City on Sunday August 18, 2024 (kick-off at 4.30 p.m.), and there are growing questions about the right players to make the squad.
