Chelsea already enjoying Berekum switch

Bechem Chelsea not only won 2-0 in their debut match since a switch of home venues in the Glo Ghana Premier League but they also recorded their highest gate proceeds ever.

The Berekum Golden City Park has new guests and even fans of rivals Arsenals are warming up to Chelsea who scored for the first time within the opening 8 minutes of a Glo Premier League game and also got their second ever 2-0 win.

Chelsea also got the support they couldn’t have when their home venue was the Sunyani Coronation Park, as the Golden City Park filled to its brim. Berekum football fans also did what they do best throughout the game and that was to support the team to victory despite rain fall.

Chelsea bigwigs were also at their spinning best, sharing the club’s replica jerseys to the fans at the game, even supporters of now local rivals Arsenal in the bid to win them to their side of the now eagerly awaited Berekum derby. But it was the money accrued from tickets sold for fans attending the game that impressed top officials of Bechem Chelsea. “The gate proceed accrued from the match can be compared to seven matches at Sunyani Coronation Park,” said an obviously pleased Nana Obed Kwame Nketia, CEO of Chelsea.

Chelsea insiders also say players of the club were relieved to be playing in Berekum in a mtach that was also incident-free, why they are happy for relocating their home venue to Berekum.

So as it stands, the people of the Brong Ahafo capital of Sunyani will have to travel to Dormaa or Berekum if they want to watch a Ghana Premier League game though the region boasts three top flight clubs.

SportInGhana.com reliable sources however maintain that Sunyani fans will apparently not forgive Chelsea and have sworn never to welcome them to the Coronation Park again, even if it is a friendly match.
