Basit Mohammed says he will never become tired of lifting trophies because it is an
honour not many ever have the privilege of doing. Having already lifted the league
and President cups, Basit claimed a third trophy within three months just last
Sunday when he led Berekum Chelsea to beat Medeama SC in the final of the Glo G8
tournament, significantly netting the only goal.
Barely a week later, he is in line for another trophy crack come Sunday when his
side battle surprise FA Cup champs FC Nania for the revived Ghana Super Cup. Basit
however remains keen on the trophy at stake on Sundaytoo.
He told ALL SPORTS: “I don’t think I will ever get tired of lifting trophies, I
don’t think so. It’s our profession and you have to be happy and thank God when you
do because it’s not easy to lift a trophy. Even if it’s ten thousand trophies, I
will not get tired. I want more trophies.”
The only title to elude Chelsea in recent times was the MTN FA Cup, Nania of course
killing such dreams via a penalty shoot-out victory in the semi final. Sunday
therefore presents the Ghana champions with the perfect opportunity for revenge, but
the Chelsea captain plays down such talk.
“I will not call it revenge. This time it’s a different thing altogether and we also
have a different team which we are building for the league and Africa. We are
playing all out not going for revenge, we just want to win.
"We thank our fans for their prayers and we hope to see them in their numbers on
Sunday and God willing we shall make them smile again,” Basit told us yesterday.
