Chelsea to face Kotoko in President's Cup on July 1

Accra, June 24, GNA - League champions, Berekum Chelsea will meet Kumasi Asante Kotoko in this year's edition of the President's Cup on July 1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The one-off match, organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) is to commemorate the 51st anniversary of Ghana's Republic status, which is marked on July 1 every year.

Alhaji Raji, Interim GHALCA Chairman in an address at the launch of the match, said the event is also to honour President John Evans Atta Mills for his achievements so far.

He announced that the President will be the Special Guest of Honour for the match.

Erasmus Adorkor, Chief Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Authority said his outfit is putting together the necessary arrangements for the successful organization of the match.

According to the organizers, the match will be heralded by a curtain raiser between Members of Parliament and GHALCA. The rates of the match are two Ghana cedis for the Popular Stand and Centre Line with the VIP section going for five Ghana cedis.

This will be the third time that the two sides will be meeting in this season.

Chelsea emerged winners of the last two meetings in the Premier League.

Sidalco Company Limited are the headline sponsors for the match with support from Voltic Ghana Limited, T.T. Brothers and Servi Star.

Meanwhile, GHALCA has constituted an eight-member committee to be chaired by Vincent Sowah Odotei, Chief Executive of King Faisal FC to see to the successful organization of the match.

Other members are Kofi Manu, Delali Senaya, Karim Kudaya, Wilfred Osei, Desmond Frimpong Manso, Mohamed Alhassan and Oduro Nyarko.
