Accra, Sep. 4, GNA - The Third National Open Chess Championship will be played at the North Ridge Hotel in Accra on Saturday, September 9.
Mr Edward Thompson, Tournament Director of the Ghana Chess Association, who announced this in Accra on Monday, said 100 players across the country are expected to participate in the one-day tournament.
He said the event, which is being sponsored by the Association is aimed at re-energising the activities of the association, which had been dormant for some time now.
The Tournament Director said in view of this a number of programmes had been lined up to make the association vibrant. Mr Thompson called on corporate bodies, institutions and individuals to help the Association to develop the sport in the country.
Francis Anquandah and Kojo Hasford are the defending champions.
