Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has revealed that he developed his fashion sense from his early days, while growing up on the streets of Chorkor, a fishing community within Greater Accra.

Appiah has carved a reputation as a fashionista and this dates right from his playing days. The ‘Tornado’ started his career in Ghana with Accra Hearts of Oak, and went on to represent clubs in Italy, Turkey and Serbia before hanging his boots.

Many people have attributed his impressive dressing abilities to his stay in Italy, a country known for their appreciable fashion sense.

Appiah in an interview on Joy Sports has however clarified that it all started on the streets of Chorkor. He remarked that fashion is all about character and he developed his, at his place of birth.

“During my Chorkor days, we (used) go to Kantamanto, with the small money that we earn on the streets we try to do something with it when it comes to dressing”, he told Joy Sports.

“I always say that when it comes to fashion, everybody knows how to dress because nobody goes out naked.”

“For me it’s all about character that is why you see certain people wearing pink trousers and pink shirts. It’s not everybody who can rock those colors. So its character and it started from Chorkor days” he concluded.

Appiah came up with a clothing line labeled STEPAPP although it failed to thrive.
