Ghana’s Black Stars secured an emphatic win over Ethiopia on Sunday June 11, when they clashed at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The Ethiopian goal keeper picked the ball five times from his net, but his counterpart on the other side had none of such a misfortune.
Though Ghanaians had every right to celebrate the 5-0 win, attention has shifted to a controversial arm band that Ghana’s captain wore during the match. The band reportedly had the his image emblazoned on it and predictably set social media alight with questions and comments over the implications of such
Even more interesting was the fact that the captain decided to walk off with the band in the 65th minute when he we substituted for Vice-captain Dede Ayew.
Dede had no choice but to make use of another one provided by the technical bench.
Explaining the idea behind the band, the coach said that there was nothing wrong with Gyan’s unique band.
He said that the captain has every right to customize all such accessories as he saw fit.
He added that there is peace, unity and discipline in the team. Ghanaians are perhaps accustomed to the ace captain’s rather distinctive haircut, which has his favourite number three, designed as part of the hairstyle.
This new addition therefore tends to make many wonder when the next surprise would be coming.
