Head Coach for the Desert Foxes of Algeria, Djamel Belmadi has vowed to fight together with his team to try and win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament for the people of Algeria.
The first and last time the side lifted the trophy was back in 1990 when the continental showpiece was hosted in their country.
After beating Nigeria 2-1 in the semi-finals yesterday, the North African country is now hoping to beat Senegal in the finals to win their second AFCON trophy in their history.
Speaking at his post-match press conference after seeing off the Super Eagles, Coach Djamel Belmadi noted that as much as his side will do all that they can to emerge as champions to make the Algerian people happy, he cannot promise them the title.
“The players forgot the penalty that wasn’t awarded and fought till the last whistle to finish off the game.
“I promise the Algerian people we will do our best to make them happy but I can’t promise them the title. I don’t have it”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Cairo International Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for the cracking finale between the Teranga Lions and the Desert Foxes. The match will be played on Friday, July 19, 2019, with kick off time set at 19:00GMT.
