Coach Edusei Not Satisfied With Team's Performance

Coach Anthony Edusei, head coach of the national Under-20 soccer team, the Black Satellites, has said Ghana's goalless drawn game against their Moroccan counterparts has made the prospects of the team's qualifying from the group very difficult but he remains optimistic of going through.

In an interview with GNA Sports yesterday, the coach said even though the group is wide open, with all the teams winning a point, Ghana will surely win the remaining matches, though it could be tough judging from the way Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire are playing.

The coach was however not satisfied with the team's performance since it did not achieve its objective of winning.

"The major problem in the team now is the coordination between the midfield and attack which breaks down from time to time forcing the attackers to move deep for balls," he said.

"I think we should have won, especially in the first half where we created a lot of decent chances which were all wasted," the coach added.

He said shooting was also a problem as most shots either flew over the bar or were intercepted.

Coach Edusei said the Moroccans played well to a set pattern where they packed their defence and moved up occasionally on the break "to give our defence anxious moments".

The Ghanaian coach said once the problem has been identified the technical team would work on it to ensure that the rough edges are smoothened before the Satellites play their next match today against Egypt.

He said the team would approach the game with all seriousness to achieve the objective of qualifying for the next World Youth Championship in May this year.

Coach Edusei said he was impressed by the performance of Patrick Villars who brought his rich experience to bear on the game when things were difficult.

The skipper of the team, Imoro Lukman, who took a knock and had to be substituted in the second half, said they whole team was disappointed with the result and expressed the hope for a better outing in subsequent matches.

"We did not play to our usual ability for some strange reasons but it would be a different game in our next match," he said.

He pleaded with the supporters to bear with them since they have all resolved to make amends today.

Meanwhile, the Skipper and Villars who took some knocks in the opening match did not train with the team on Monday but the coach said they would be fit.
