Former Asante Kotoko coach, Isaac Opeele Boateng, has expressed his support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, was appointed as the running mate for flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Opeele, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), believes that NAPO's appointment has shifted the balance in their favour ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He pointed out that the party's stronghold is the Ashanti Region, and having an Asante as the running mate brings them closer to the presidency than they have been in recent years, potentially attracting a significant number of votes.

"The NPP stronghold is the Ashanti Region. It has been 16 years since the region saw one of its own closer to the presidency," he wrote.

"Dr. Bawumia choosing NAPO can GINGER ASHANTI VOTERS on December 7th, that is, if NAPO is able to use his ROYAL CULT FIGURE to INSPIRE THEM!"

The National Executive Committee of the NPP officially confirmed NAPO as the running mate on Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has been a Member of Parliament for Manhyia South since 2009 and has held various ministerial positions, currently serving as the Energy Minister.
