Coach Sarpong bemoans backbiting in Ghana Football

Veteran Ghanaian coach, JE Sarpong, has confirmed reported backbiting among his coaching colleagues in the country.

The former Liberty Professionals and Aduana coach, in a passionate conversation on Power FM’s morning sports show, said the negative intentions of colleagues in the system in their bid to gain favours or topple their superiors has not helped the development of the local game.

“I think most of my colleagues are church-goers and not Christians,” he told the Accra-based station.

“I have personally suffered from back-biting over the years from my own assistants whom I brought over to help me with my job. I, therefore, sometimes become very careful when I have to even recommend somebody.

“There is a Judas Iscariot in every human endeavour and such people come to tell me when others talk about me,” he continued.

The former Ghana under-23 assistant coach gave a vivid example to buttress his claims.

”I was in my mother’s town when E.T Mensah one day came there. Upon getting to know that I was cousin to Dr. Kwabena Adjei, he confessed that I was a man whom he had earlier wanted to hand over one of the national teams but my own colleagues advised him against the idea,” he said.

The ace coach’s comments are expected to raise a lot of debate in the Ghanaian soccer fraternity.
