Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach, Isaac Adade Opeele Boateng, has lauded Nigerian footballer, Victor Boniface, for his heartfelt gesture of flying the coach who discovered him, Johnson Blessing, to Germany for Bayer Leverkusen's Bundesliga title celebration on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
Victor Boniface reportedly brought his childhood coach to witness his team's 2-1 triumph over Augsburg in the German Bundesliga.
Following the match, Bayer Leverkusen was officially awarded the Bundesliga title, and Boniface made sure his mentor savoured the moment, in person.
Social media has been abuzz with photos and videos showing Johnson and Boniface taking a leisurely stroll on the field, basking in Leverkusen's historic achievement as the first team to complete a Bundesliga season undefeated.
In response to one of the photos, Coach Opeele commended Victor Boniface for not forgetting the individual who provided him with his first opportunity to showcase his abilities.
Coach Opeele said that such acts of gratitude are rare among Ghanaian players, suggesting a lack of appreciation for the country's coaches.
"Nigerian Victor Boniface celebrates the Bundesliga title with his childhood Nigerian coach. I've never seen a Ghanaian player do the same. The level of gratitude from Nigerians is unparalleled. Coaching in Ghana is thankless. It's a waste of time! A player once gave his coach a car with an old engine," he commented.
Boniface and his Leverkusen squad have the potential to end the season as treble winners, provided they emerge victorious against Atalanta in the Europa League final and Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final.
