The National Juvenile Committee Chairman has denied assertions that Colts football in Ghana is dead.
Mr. Nii Eddie Doku, who doubles as the RFA Chairman for Greater Accra, cited the abundance of talent in the current Black Stars team as a testimony of juvenile football in the country.
The experienced administrator called on Ghanaians to change their perception of Colts football.
Speaking exclusively to Sportscrusader.com, Mr. Eddie said, “Juvenile football is not dead in the country. If juvenile football were to be dead in the country, then where is the current crop of Black Stars players coming from? Are they being imported from Togo, Nigeria or somewhere else?
“These are the same Black Stars players who have made it to three successive World Cups.
Our juvenile football is not dead, but we need to do more to change the face of the juvenile football. This is because what people use to know about juvenile football is no more the same as before. We have gotten to a stage where we need to pump resources into football. Now football has moved from the passion to a business. It must be well structured, captured and nurtured.
“If people are looking at football with the same eyes that they use to look at it in those days, then they can say colt’s football is dead. We are structuring the colt’s league into regional Juvenile premier league and district leagues. This will help motivate the clubs to play to avoid relegation with the FCPPL clubs representing their Juvenile teams as well”.
