Commey stops Mamadjonov to win IBF Intercontinental title

Richard Oblitey Commey is the new IBF intercontinental lightweight champion after stopping Uzbekistan boxer, Bahodir Mamadjonov in their scheduled 10-rounder in Las Vegas on Friday night.

Commey who improves to 22-0, 20 KOs dominated his opponent throughout and sent Mamadjonov crashing to the canvas in round 7 even though he did beat the referee's count to end the round.

But Commey returned much stronger in the very next round so much the referee had no choice than to stop the fight minutes into the 8th round to hand the Ghanaian victory in what was his debut fight in the USA.

Commey who also holds the Commonwealth Lightweight championship, adds the IBF Intercontinental belt to his collection and a sure tonic to rise further than his current no.7 rating in the IBF Lightweight division.

"He has wins in Dubai in kickboxing, boxing wins in Ghana, London, Denmark, South Africa and now Las Vegas. He'll fight anywhere and will win anywhere. Well deserved Champ, proud of you, now go enjoy your night," said one of Commey's staunchest fans, Eamon Molloy on Facebook.
