The inaugural Africa Cup Winners Cup netball competition that was supposed to be held in Accra, Ghana, from October 31 has been postponed to December 13-22.
The organisers moved the event because it would have coincided with the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan. Over 10 countries had shown interest in the event, which is organised by the Confederation of Africa Netball Association.
Nyayo Stars, the national team, have been training at the Nyayo Stadium and will continue with the preparations. They train three times a week.
"The organisers have informed us of the changes," Lorna Khainga, the Kenya Netball Association, chairman said.
Khainga said the team needs Sh3 million for the Ghana tournament.
"The amount allocated for netball by the government is Sh300,000, which is a drop in the ocean," the chairman added.
On November 16 and 17, the KNA will hold a tournament in Busia and part of the proceeds will go towards the expenses of the national team.
In the meantime, the KNA is waiting for word from the Tanzania netball body, Chaneta, about the dates of the East and Central Africa netball championships.
Three Kenyan women teams expected to travel to Dar-es-Salaam are Telkom, Prisons and National Social Security Fund (NSSF). Also travelling will be the National Youth Service and Naivasha Municipality men's teams.
