"Contribute to the development of cricket", - Aggrey

Accra, Feb. 14, GNA - Corporate bodies, individuals and institutions have been called upon to contribute meaningfully to the development of the game of cricket to make it one of the popular sports in the country. Mr Joe Aggrey, Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sports made the call at the opening of the Marylebourne Cricket Club's (MCC) West African tour in Accra on Saturday.
The MCC team is in the country to impart its knowledge, skills and technique in the game of cricket to their Ghanaian counterparts and to engage in a series of matches.
Mr Aggrey said the development and promotion of sports in the country should not be the sole responsibility of the government but a collective effort of all sports enthusiasts and therefore called on all to help in that direction.
He praised the MCC for its noble idea of sharing their experiences with other clubs and charged the local cricketers to take their lessons seriously.
Mr David Quagraine, Chairman of the Ghana Cricket Association also praised the visitors for their foresight and gave the assurance that whatever lessons that would be taught they would endeavor to take them on a serious note.
The Ghanaian team who had lost all the three matches so far played, gave the assurance that they would make amends and win the final match on Tuesday.
