Coronavirus: King Faisal wants Ghana Premier League cancelled

Public Relations Officer of struggling Ghana Premier League side, King Faisal, Awal Mohammed has urged the Football Association to cancel the suspended season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A ban all public gatherings in the West African country has forced the GFA to suspend all football competitions, including the top-flight. The Caf Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given GFA until May 5 to take a decision on whether the current campaign will be annulled or continued.

Awal believes that lack of facilities in Ghana will make it difficult to re-start the league, citing how European countries with even more resources are finding it difficult to regroup and continue their leagues.

"In our current situation with Covid–19 you can tell that even European countries that are more advanced are finding it difficult to regroup to train and start their leagues," he explained on Citi FM.

"Just recently the French Ligue 1 cancelled their season.

"In Ghana, we don’t have the facilities to regroup as soon as possible so King Faisal’s stance is that due to these factors if we cancel the league now and plan for next season it will be the best for all involved."

King Faisal are bottom of the league table with only six points after 14 matches played thus far prior to the league's suspension.
