Countryman Songo finds fault with Ghana's victory over Mali, makes Partey his scapegoat

Controversial Ghanaian sports broadcaster, Patrick Osei Agyemang, affectionately known as Countryman Songo, has criticized the Black Stars' technical team for benching Jordan Ayew in Ghana's 2-1 win over Mali.

Songo, who was irritated by the decision, claimed that leaving Jordan out of the starting eleven was a plot by some persons against the Ayew family.

He alleged that the technical team conspired to bench Jordan, whom he claims is the best player in the squad.

"It was a plan to bench Jordan Ayew; that's why you benched him. Jordan Ayew is better than all the current players on the Black Stars. He is ahead of all of them," he said.

He argued that Thomas Partey is nowhere near Jordan, adding that the skipper is privileged to be playing for Arsenal.

He justified his claim by pointing out that Partey's quality has made him a benchwarmer for Arsenal.

"He (Joran Ayew) is number 1, then Kudus follows. He is ahead of all of them. For Partey, he's been privileged to play for Arsenal. Even at Arsenal, he is a bench warmer. Be honest, and the Black Stars will fare well," he asserted.

Jordan Ayew, who began the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali on the bench, scored the match-winning goal in the 2-1 victory.

He finished the game as one of the best players of the night, despite playing less than 20 minutes.

The win revived Ghana's hopes of qualifying for the World Cup, as the team now sits third in the group, tied on 6 points with Madagascar and Comoros, who are first and second, respectively.

Following his sensational cameo against Mali, Jordan is expected to start in the Black Stars' game against the Central African Republic today, June 10, 2024, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
