Former Hearts of Oak captain Amankwah Mireku believes the current crop of players at the club are substandard and will be unable to secure the expected success next season.

The Phobians are desperate to return to the top of their game again where they were challenging for top honours on all front.

Hearts endured an underwhelming campaign last term where they were at a point facing a fight against relegation.

Management in their attempt to return the club to winning ways believe they have secured the right man to lead the side to greatness in Japanese coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

But former captain Amankwa Mireku who presided over the club’s most productive period says the current crop of players are not cut for greatness.

“I will not mention names but what I can say is that most of the current players in Hearts of Oak don’t deserve to play the team because they are below the standard and the spirit of team and this is a serious problem facing the team,” he said.

Former Ghana striker Yaw Preko has been appointed as the assistant coach at Hearts in their beefing up exercise ahead of the start of next season.

The goalkeeper’s trainer of the Black Stars Nassam Yakubu has also been brought in.
