DOL to meet club chairmen

Accra, May 31, GNA - The Division One League (DOL) Board will on June 14, meet Chairmen of all the various Division One league clubs in the country to discuss preparations towards the 2004 soccer season. The meeting, which is scheduled at the secretariat of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), will take a serious look at the league, player registration protests, match venues, crowd violence and hooliganism and other general issues affecting the league.

Mr Douglas Djarbeng, Chairman of DOL who disclosed this to the GNA Sports said only club Chairman are to attend the meeting since the Board is likely to fix a date for the commencement of the league this year and take other vital decisions as well.

He said clubs, especially the newly promoted ones are also expected to name their venues for this year's league to enable the Board embark on inspection on the fields for endorsement.

According to Mr Djarbeng, he is expecting another year of trouble free league, adding that preparations towards the commencement of the league is in a gradual process but will hit the desired target. The division one league normally starts a month after the beginning of the national premier league hence the league is likely to kick off in the later parts of June.

However, only four regions have so far declared their champions from the division two league champions for the division one league, with the remaining six yet to declare theirs due to uncompleted league as a result of protests. 31 May 04
