Former Black Stars goalkeeper, Abubakar Damba is of the view that locally-based players must be paid a minimum salary of GHS1000 a month.

According to him, the club licensing must be well functioned in order to help the players stay home to make the local league attractive.

Speaking to Class Sports on Monday, the former RTU goalkeeper said, “We are talking about the implementation of the minimum salary. It must be implemented as far as all clubs are concerned. The club licensing system should be functional such that any club that cannot meet their criteria has no business playing in the elite division. We want a minimum salary of GHS1000 for the players so that they can be comfortable and play their hearts out.”

He also called on the clubs to respect the rules and regulations implemented.

“Individuals who own clubs do their own things and think they can get away with it, but I don’t think that should be a way to go. You need to respect the rules and regulations and if you are not able to do that, you have no business playing in the elites division. The minimum salary of GHS1000 must be implemented and various clubs must respect it or they stay out of football.”
