The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has received Grace Minta, Ghana's Armwrestling champion and gold medalist at the 2024 World Armwrestling Championship, at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

The IGP, impressed by Minta's achievements, praised the world champion and offered the Police Service’s collaboration with the Ghana Armwrestling Federation on projects that align with their development programs. He challenged the GAF and Grace to find many more young talents to transition this generation.

The IGP said Ghana must celebrate and reward Grace Minta for her unprecedented achievement in putting the nation on the global map, hinting that the police service will consider a reward for the champion based on their internal reward structure.

"We are proud of your accomplishments, Grace. Your dedication and perseverance serve as an inspiration to many young Ghanaians," Dr. Dampare said.

Dr. Dampare further urged Ghana Armwrestling and the many federations to commercialize talent in order to make sports a viable business. He further charged the federations to explore innovative ways to commercialize sports results to generate revenue and create employment opportunities.

Dr. Dampare emphasized the need to move beyond mere participation in sports and focus on harnessing its economic potential. "We have talented athletes, passionate fans, and a vibrant sports culture. It's time to turn these assets into a goldmine," he said.

Minta expressed her gratitude to the IGP and the service for their support, sharing her vision to mentor tomorrow’s champions, encourage participation in schools and communities, and provide a platform for the development of skills and building of athletes’ confidence.

Minta, accompanied by officials from the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, discussed ways to leverage her success to promote sports development and youth empowerment in Ghana.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration, harnessing the power of sports to drive positive change in Ghanaian society.

The IGP was presented with a customized Armwrestling medal, symbolizing the beginning of a strong partnership between the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the Ghana Police Service.

Present at the meeting were Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, Mr. Jesse Agyepong, and Godfrey Amarteifio, President, Secretary, and board member respectively of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, COP Dr. Daniel Afriyie, Director General of Human Resources, and DCOP Dr. Otu-Nyarko, Director in charge of the Ghana Police Hospital, both on the Ghana Police Service management team.
