Ace Ghanaian sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has commended legendary Ghanaian footballer Asamoah Gyan for his role in crafting the New Patriotic Party's manifesto for the 2024 elections.

The NPP which is being led into the 2024 elections by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, unveiled their manifesto on Sunday, August 18, 2024, and Kwaku Yeboah is particularly impressed with the promises outlined for the sports industry.

Touching on the manifesto on Peace FM, Kwaku Yeboah listed some of the promises that he is very impressed with.

He credited Asamoah Gyan, who was the chair of the youth and sports sub-committee of the manifesto, with some of the ideas in the manifesto.

Kwaku Yeboah observed that some of the promises reflect Asamoah Gyan's knowledge and experience as a footballer.

"Asamoah Gyan was the chairman of the sub-committee on sports for the NPP's manifesto. They covered every part and he did a great job. If not for politics, issues like these would be reserved for the experts. What I like most is the 'Operation Olympic Glory.' Since 2004, our football team has not qualified for the Olympic Games. For the other sporting disciplines, we don't perform when we go, so for a footballer to think about the need to restore the Olympic glory, it shows that in the next Olympics, we would invest well and prepare.

"Another area I liked about the manifesto is the plan to revamp school sports. If we do it well, it will help our sports," he said.

In the NPP’s manifesto launched on Sunday, August 18, 2024, the party promised to get a bus for each of the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs and also construct a stadium in Sunyani.

Dr. Bawumia also said that his government will start an “Operation Olympics Glory” programme by dedicating resources towards the preparation and readiness of athletes for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.

As part of the Operation Olympics Glory Programme, Dr. Bawumia revealed that, "where necessary," his government will target specific sports for medals.

As part of a broader sports development vision, Dr. Bawumia also announced the establishment of a Ghana School Sports Secretariat as a special purpose vehicle to drive the sustainable development of grassroots sports through the schools, in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ghana Education Service and sports federations.
