Ghana and FC Copenhagen defender Daniel Amartey is awaiting the approval of his work permit from the English FA ahead of his purported move to Premier League side Leicester City, his agent Hasan Cetinkaya has confirmed.

The 21-year-old was previously linked to Liverpool and Leicester following his inspiring performances for club and country last year, but the number of national team appearances hindered his move to England.

However, his agent insists he has now met the quota expected of him to gain a work permit.

“Everything is almost ready, Leicester have previously been interested in him. Right now we just need to get a confirmation from the English Football Association, in relation to permit to work,” Cetinkaya told BT Sport.

“We just need a 100 per cent green light from the FA. I think we can because he has all his caps in place to get work permits. It was what was missing last time Leicester were interested,” he added.

The Foxes, who are second in the Premier League, are reported to have tabled a £6 million bid for the Ghanaian.

Amartey has won six caps for Ghana since 2015. He was part of the Black Stars squad that finished as runners-up to Cote d'Ivoire at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
