Ghana defender Daniel Amartey returned from a long injury layoff to play for Leicester City in their 3-2 extra time loss against Aston Villa in the Premier League Cup semifinal on Friday.

Amartey has been sidelined since suffering an injury in Leicester City 1-1 draw with AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League last month.

The 23-year-old consequently missed six games as the Foxes continue to push for a European place in the English Premier League.

The versatile guardsman returned to the pitch after one month in the side's U-23 Premier League Cup match against Aston Villa U23 on Friday night.

Jack Aidan Clarke put the Villains ahead in the 74th minute before Tunisian international Yohan Benalouane levelled the scoreline for the Foxes four minutes late to take the game to extra time.

Two quick strikes from English youngster Rushian Hepburn-Murphy set the winning tone for Aston Villa before George Thomas pulled a goal back as the visitors run away with the sole ticket to the final.

Amartey was replaced by Dewsbury-Hall at halftime.

The Ghana international has amassed just eight league appearances for the first team in the ongoing English top flight league.
