Danish Sporting organization to assist disabled

Winneba, (C/R) April 4, GNA - A two-day workshop for 43 disabled persons from the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled (GSPG) and Egmont High School of Denmark opened at the National Sports College at Winneba on Monday.

The workshop, which is being organized by the GSPG in collaboration with the Denmark Association of the Disabled, is aimed at exchanging ideas on sporting activities for the disabled.

The participants would be taken through sporting activities including Boccia, wheelchair soccer and wheelchair basketball as well as wheelchair race.

The National President of the Ghana Society of the Physically Disabled, Mr. Christopher Kesseih in a welcome address, called for closer collaboration of the two associations for the betterment of their members.

He said that he hopes the workshop would enable the two associations to have knowledge of some sporting activities they can participate in for their benefit.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, Mr. Jens Boe Nielsen, an executive member of the Danish Sports Organization for the Disabled said that they are in Ghana to access areas of sports for the disabled and find ways of collaboration and how best they could assist to promote such sporting activities.

The Executive member said that the disabled in the country are already well advanced in the practice of the games of soccer and basketball his association would initially do its best to assist to develop those games.

Mr. Nielsen said sporting activities are meant for everybody including the disabled and there was therefore the urgent need for the necessary assistance to be accorded the disabled for them to participate in the various games.

Mr. Henry Lind, a teacher of the Egmont High School, which is a school for the disabled in Denmark hoped that such workshops would be organized periodically to introduce new sporting activities to the participants.
