David Accam frustrated after US Open Cup elimination

Black Stars striker David Accam was left frustrated after Chicago Fire bowed out of the US Open Cup following a disappointing defeat to New England Revolution.

Accam scored but was not enough to help Chicago reach the finals as they lost 3-1 to compatriot Gershon Koffie's side.

The 25-year-old restored parity for Fire - after Kei Kamara had opened the scoring for Revolution - with a twinkle-toed finish that saw him plant Watson on the turf with a nasty cutback.

But was later sent off after he committed a bad foul on Kelyn Rowe, then shoved the Revs midfielder to earn a straight red card.

Accam described his actions as Silly, admitting the team was just not good enough to beat New England Revolution.

"I think so, a little bit. We just tried to win the ball and push a little bit harder and at the end, I just made a silly mistake.”

“For me, the guys showed a lot of passion, but today we weren’t good enough and for us, we need to learn how to start games earlier. We didn’t do that. We sat back and they put pressure on us and that dictates the game for us which isn’t good. So next time, we need to dictate the game.”

On how they change the way play is dictated

“Just our confidence on the ball and I think it’s just the simple things we need to do more.”
